Why should I consider Italian language training?
An Italian language course will give you a big business advantage if you have regular contacts with Italian speakers. Italian is an official language in 4 European states, including Italy, the UK’s 8th biggest trading partner, Switzerland, San Marino and the Vatican City. It is also the mother tongue for parts of the population in Malta, Monaco, Slovenia and Croatia.
How does Italian figure in the wider scheme of languages?
Italian is a Romance language closely related to Sardinian, Corsican and other dialects of the Italian peninsula. It evolved from Latin via literary Tuscan, the dialect used by the great writers Dante, Boccaccio and Petrarch, and later became the modern standard. Italian is spoken today by over 60 million native speakers - making it one of the world’s 13 most widely spoken languages.
How can I possibly remember all that Italian vocabulary?
English and Italian are related through Norman French and direct borrowings from Latin. Many Italian words are so familiar they don’t even need translating: stupido, intelligente, animale, disturbare, telefono, arrivare, pratico, dividere. Many of the words we use for art, politics and food were borrowed from Italian: violin, stanza, studio, design, fiasco, spaghetti, pizza.
Will it be hard for me to say things in Italian?
Italian uses the Latin alphabet like English but with the addition of acute and grave accents. Pronunciation is moderately easy for English speakers with the added advantage that spoken Italian always corresponds to its spelling (this is known as a phonetic language). Pronunciation coaching as part of your Italian language training will show you how to use this relationship.
Will you really be able to teach me Italian?
You will find our “learning by doing” method enjoyable and stimulating. Years of experience in “communicative methodology” have enabled us to develop dynamic exercises which help you to use Italian practically - as you learn it - with relevant materials and realistic situations.
