Why would I find French language training useful?
If your work involves regular contacts with French speakers, then you would certainly benefit from a French language course. French is an official language in 40 countries, including France, the UK’s 3rd biggest trading partner, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. It is also used for trade by other Europeans, like the Spanish, Portuguese and Italians, who may not speak English.
How significant is French as a world language?
French is a Romance language, descended from Latin, and most closely related to Provençal, Gascon and Occitan. After an illustrious history, it still plays a very important role as an administrative, commercial and international language. French is one of the 12 most widely spoken languages with over 70 million native speakers and millions of second language speakers.
How can I ever hope to learn all those French words?
English and French are closely related. The Norman invasion brought hundreds of French words into the English language. Although they may sound different in French you are already using a huge number of these words every day in English: original, organisation, visite, groupe, classe, accident, absurde, excellent, moment, solution. You know far more French than you realise!
Will French be difficult for me to pronounce?
French uses the Latin alphabet like English but with some additional accents. Unlike English, French pronunciation is very consistent with its spelling so you should be able to master it with coaching, as part of your French language training. It’s worth the effort - French has a unique charm with some very characteristic sounds like the rolled “r” and nasal vowels as in un bon vin blanc.
Can you really teach me French?
Many years’ experience of “communicative methodology” has enabled us to develop dynamic exercises which help you to use your French practically - as you learn it - with relevant materials and realistic situations. “Learning by doing” works because it is more stimulating and enjoyable.
What clients said about their French language course:
“The level was just about right
and the standard of teaching was excellent. The lessons gave me a chance
to understand where I was going wrong and how to improve my formal French……In
conclusion, I’ve learned a great deal more about the technical aspects
of the language and feel much more confident about communicating on a formal
basis with my future colleagues in Reims.”
Craig Harris
“I thought the sessions were
excellent. I would like to repeat them next year. I found the
training interesting and enjoyable and I felt I developed a lot. I achieved
everything I needed to from the sessions.”
David Harrison
