Jonathan Smith
Managing Director

Founded Transglobal Languages in 1992.
     Responsible for sales, marketing and development.

BA Hons in French and German (Bristol) and
     Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Manchester).

Spent 14 years in various European sales &
     marketing roles in the printing and textile industries.

Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of
     Personnel and Development, Fellow of the Institute
     of Linguists.

Chairman of ALEC 1991-1994 - directed its growth
     into an independent professional body of 50
     language centres.

Consultant for CILT, The National Centre for Languages and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI),
     Campus Enterprise Fellow at the University of Salford.

As an Export Communications Consultant has advised over 100 exporting companies on
     their language and culture needs. Commended for his work at the 2001 International
     Business Awards.

Ela Linton
Training Manager

Joined Transglobal in 1999.  Took responsibility
     for language training and cultural briefings in April
     2000.

Studied English in Warsaw before moving to UK.
     BA Hons in Russian Studies (UCL).

Postgraduate Certificate in Further and Adult
     Education (MMU) and Certificate in Teaching Adult
     Learners.

Studied French and German.  Currently taking an AS
     Level in Spanish.

Worked for 8 years at the Inland Revenue as a
     Revenue Executive dealing with personal taxation.

From 1992 taught Russian and Polish and from 1997 translated professionally from
     English into Polish.

Jen Cartwright
Translations Manager

Joined Transglobal in 2004 with responsibility for
     translation and interpreting services.

First Class Honours in Mathematics and French at
     UMIST.

Degree included a year’s industrial placement in
     France and a major translation project.

Worked as a bilingual assistant to the accountants in
     a French accounting firm.

Worked in a UK property agency liaising with French
     developers, notaries and mortgage companies.

Worked as part of a multinational team establishing
     a European Shared Services Centre in Manchester.

Jo Allen
Accounts Manager

Joined Transglobal in 2000 with responsibility for
     purchasing, office management and accounts.

BA Hons in Music (Huddersfield) and Associate of
     the Royal College of Music.

Spent 15 years in arts administration, mainly
     promoting classical music in the North West.

Appointments with North West Arts, BBC
     Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata and Mike Lloyd
     Artists.
